SPIT VIPER XTREM, the natural evolution

C2 certification, like other manufacturers, is achieved through special conical rods, but is it really like this?

  • February 18, 2021

The chemical fixing market has evolved in the last two years towards the development of high performance Vinylester based resins, 100% epoxy resins losing some notoriety. However, only a few manage to achieve the performance of epoxies up to diameters of 20 mm. In June 2018, Spit developed the Viper Xtrem as an integral part of the French brand's Seismic range of fixtures. In the last two years, the technical department of Tecofix, S.A. prescribed the product in several national works, in which the unique quality of the product was demonstrated.

The adhesion proved through several tests carried out over these two years by the technical department Tecofix, S.A. observed values above 17 Mpa, sometimes surpassing the 20 Mpa barrier, until recently only within reach of 100% epoxy resins. The Viper Xtrem's high grip allows it to achieve C1-C2 type performances.

C2 certification, like other manufacturers, is achieved through special conical rods, but is it still?

The development of the concrete cone in a conical anchorage has a distinct geometry due to the contact area of the bar versus support. A larger iteration area with different angles of reaction force development. The internal tensions in the support exist but with an angular distribution, inferior to the use of a traditional rod. The method of calculating anchorages by the new EC2 in this chapter complements EC8 for structural connections, but is it possible to achieve C2 performance with other types of rebars? Connections with ribbed rods have already undergone an upgrade in the calculation method with the introduction of the VARIO method, which, through product adherence, allows for a reduction in the sealing depth, ensuring certified seismic performance. It is natural that the Viper Xtrem will evolve into a C1-C2 product for any type of rod in the near future, thus raising the demands of construction or rehabilitation even further.
