European regulations on the use of bushings in seismic zones

The anti-seismic design requirements for bushings are provided by EOTA – European Organization for Technical Approval TR045 (until publication of standard EN 1992-4). This document refers to the seismic evaluation of the bushings contained in annex E of ETAG001, which implies the differentiation of use in seismic performance categories C1 and C2. The seismic performance category C1 deals with the capacity of the bushings solely in terms of resistance to the limit state while the seismic performance category C2, the most severe, deals with the capacity in terms of the resistance to the limit state and deformations to the limit state of the wear and the ultimate limit state. The table associates the anti-seismic requirements with the level of seismic activity and the category of importance of the buildings.

C1 for type "B" connections for fastening non-structural elements to structures. C2 for 'A' type connections for fastening non-structural elements to structures. Analyzing the attached map, we can conclude that any steel/concrete anchorage should be governed by this regulation, however seismic maps may present different values for the northern region of Portugal, so the AgS calculation is recommended in accordance with Eurocode 8.
